A NOVEL IDEA HISTORY:
A NOVEL IDEA est. 1985 PAPERBACK BOOK EXCHANGE was started in 1985 by Karen and Bob Johnstone in a tiny 200 sq ft unit on a quiet side street in Alliston,... Ontario and quickly grew to over 1000 sq ft at 103 Victoria St. W in Alliston, where it remains today.
Karen and Bob operated A NOVEL IDEA as a family business employing Karen's mom, Grace Dakus, as its manager until 1991. The store has been operated by two other owners since, including the late Michael Kingsbury who passed away in early 2009.
In a twist of fate, Karen was recently laid off from her long time job in the pharmaceutical industry and looking for a new career direction. After enquiring as to the bookstore's status, she found that it had not been operational for a quite a while since Mr. Kingsbury's passing in 2009.
Karen, along with her now grown up son Dustin, who spent many hours in the bookstore as a child, are proud to announce of re-opening A NOVEL IDEA est. 1985. We are currently sorting through the overstock of used books accumulated and updating the store space.
Please come by and visit us and browse through our thousands of books as we re-launch our family owned and operated bookstore.
